Daily living and daily exposure to stress, pollutants and chemicals, leaves the immune system depleted, making us more prone to infections and disease. There are a number of routine ways to boost immunity. Half the time we start well, but let go midway as the whole process seems to require effort. Studies have shown a direct link to de-stressing and better immunity. Flotation therapy has been academically studied in the USA and in Sweden with published results showing reduction of both pain and stress. At the moment there have been 80+ studies done on the benefits of floating. Beyond Rest Melbourne brings the benefits of floating including pain reduction and relaxation benefits, as well as better rest and restoration, that enhance natural abilities.
How does floating work?
Floating involves floating in pools where the temperature of the water has been regulated, and the water is purified and saturated with epsom salts. Epsom salts,as we know it are basically a mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Both magnesium and sulphate are easily absorbed through the skin. Magnesium reduces inflammation, helps muscle and nerve function, whereas sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins, and help ease migraine headaches. So these salts are wonderful for relaxing the nervous system, soothing back pain, aching limbs, healing cuts and sprains, and drawing toxins from the body.
If we are constantly exposed to deadlines and other pressures we undergo long periods of stress. Stress drains the body of magnesium. Soaking for a period of on hour, in warm water mixed with epsom salts, replenishes the body with the depleted magnesium. The magnesium produces serotonin, that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation.
Floating has a side-effect to it as well. Since floating produces deep relaxation, this profound relaxation causes the brain to release endorphins which control pain. This is a lot like meditation where a period of meditation releases endorphins in the body thus creating a sense of calm. Endorphins are the body’s natural pain killers.Endorphins interact with the opiate receptors in the brain to reduce our perception of pain and act similarly to drugs such as morphine and codeine, thus helping you reach a state of bliss and calm.
